The University of Melbourne Defence Enterprise was showcased at the PACIFIC 2019 International Maritime Exposition in Sydney last month
The team hosted an exhibition stand with our expertise and partnerships on display whilst our researchers gave pitches in areas including: hydrodynamic modelling, improving the safety of helicopter landings on ships in heavy sea states, quantum sensors (including magnetometers and chemical sensors), sonar signal processing and human performance modelling and experimentation.
We appreciated the engagement of many industry and defence professionals with our researchers.
We also presented our plans for the new Fishermans Bend campus where there will be new world-class wind tunnels, water tanks and autonomous systems laboratories.
The University assisted with the launch of the Australian Maritime Development Centre which will have nodes around Australia. The aim of the Centre is to facilitate the engagement of industry and research for the Royal Australian Navy to address short to long term technology needs.
Aligning to Defence Science and Technology (DST) the Centre will provide the infrastructure and environment for researchers and industry to work closely together in teams to address the technology needs of future surface ships and submarines.
We look forward to working closely with the Royal Australian Navy, industry and DST in realising a vibrant and innovative maritime research agenda for Australia and its allies.
