Road to Endeavour: Smart support cane
Master of Electrical Engineering students Yaameen, Andrea and Tom identified an opportunity to use cutting-edge guidance and navigation technology to assist the visually impaired.
For their final-year capstone subject, they've created the Smart Support Cane — a walking aid equipped with a lidar sensor and onboard computer that sends vibrational feedback to the user, all for the cost of a mid-range smartphone.
Yaameen, Andrea and Tom exhibited their project at the 2019 Endeavour Exhibition alongside their fellow final-year engineering and IT masters students.
