Engineering & IT Coursework Scholarship Terms and Conditions

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) offers a range of scholarships to students studying in the field of engineering or information technology at The University of Melbourne.

If you are a current student and hold one of these scholarships, the following terms and conditions will apply to your scholarship. If your scholarship has any additional conditions you must meet to maintain your scholarship, those will be listed in your scholarship offer.

Accepting your scholarship

  • You must accept the scholarship offer by the date listed in your offer. As part of the scholarship acceptance, you must submit an award acceptance note and agree to the University providing your name, award acceptance and course name to the donor and to provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.
  • If the scholarship is not accepted by the date in your scholarship offer letter, it may be offered to another student.

Payments

  • Scholarship payments will be paid directly into your Australian bank account. You will need to ensure that your banking details on the Student Portal are correct.
    • The payments may be offered as a single payment, multiple half-yearly instalments or multiple annual payments.
    • The value, duration and frequency of payments is specified in your scholarship offer.
  • The first payment will only be released after you have accepted your scholarship and submitted an award acceptance.

Duration

  • The maximum duration of your scholarship is specified in your scholarship offer.
  • The duration of your scholarship will be reduced by any periods of study undertaken previously towards the course for which the scholarship is awarded.
  • Your scholarship will be completed when:
    • the end date of your scholarship has passed, or
    • you complete your course before the end date of your scholarship

Academic progress

You must continue to make Satisfactory Progress in your course, and not be deemed as "At Risk", for the duration of the scholarship. If your scholarship is subject to academic progress requirements, your scholarship will specify the minimum average result that you must achieve in each half-year study period.

If you are deemed "At Risk" and/or fail to achieve the minimum average result, your scholarship payments will be stopped. You may be given the chance to appeal. If you have the chance to appeal you must demonstrate you have compassionate or compelling circumstances that are beyond your control and have impact on your ability to study.

Part - time enrolment

If you enrol part-time, you will continue to receive the benefits of your scholarship, however the duration of benefits will not be extended.

Please not: If you are enrolled part-time, we will not withhold income tax from your scholarship payments. However, you should declare your payments as assessable income in your tax return or seek independent tax advice to ensure that your individual circumstances are covered.

Leave of absence

If you are granted a leave of absence or suspended from your course, the benefits of your scholarship will be suspended (scholarship leave) and the end date of your scholarship will be extended by the duration of the scholarship leave.

Course withdrawal

If you withdraw from your course, or your course is withdrawn by the University, your scholarhsip will end as of the date of withdrawal.

Unless otherwise specified in your scholarship offer, if you withdraw from your course and subsequently enrol in another course at the same level, your scholarship may continue, however the druation of your scholarship will not be extended.

False or misleading information

If you have provided false or misleading information and as a result you were awarded or continued to receive benefits of your scholarship, your scholarship will be withdrawn or rescinded and you may be required to repay any scholarship beneifts to which you are not entitled to within 14 days of being requested to do so by the University.
