The John Balfour Memorial Scholarship was founded by donations from Lewis John Balfour, Ella Nerrina Balfour, Phyllis Eyres Read and Beverley Eyres Balfour in memory of the late John Eyres Balfour. John Balfour was a sub-lieutenant of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who obtained his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Melbourne.
The scholarship is open to students within the Melbourne School of Engineering who are enrolled in:
- the Master of Engineering
- the Master of Information Systems (1.5 or 2 year program)
- the Master of Information Technology (1.5 or 2 year program)
Preference will be given to men or women who are serving or have served in the Royal Australian Navy, Royal Navy, or the Australian or British Merchant Navy, or are the sons or daughters of men or women who have thus served.
For 2020, a single award of $3,066.05 AUD is available.
Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Academic merit
- The quality of your personal statement
