Diane Lemaire Scholarship

This scholarship was made possible through a bequest from the late Diane Lemaire, who was the first woman to graduate with an engineering degree from the University of Melbourne in 1942. This scholarship is available to outstanding female PhD students in the Faculty of Engineering and IT to fund a project or proposal that will enhance the applicant's PhD and research outcomes.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be a PhD candidate currently enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology; and
  • identify as a woman. Both cis-women and trans women Graduate Researchers are encouraged to apply

Value

In 2024, one or more awards of between $4,000–$15,000 are available. The number and value of the awards made is at the discretion of the Selection Committee.

Selection criteria

Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Academic merit, assessed via supporting documents such as CV, most recent progress report (where applicable)
  • Impact of proposed project on your research outcomes
  • Quality of research, assessed by your supervisor's statement of support and strength of your personal statement
