FEIT Sustainability Community of Practice
The FEIT Sustainability Community of Practice (SCoP) is a network of academic and professional staff from across the FEIT who are committed to supporting the Faculty’s sustainability agenda. The SCoP helps to inform the Faculty’s sustainability priorities and in turn, shape relevant initiatives.
Our Vision
The FEIT SCoP provides expertise and strategic advice to help inform the Faculty’s ambitions in sustainability. FEIT SCoP will provide recommendations to the Associate Dean, Sustainability to support the implementation and delivery of relevant initiatives. Members will leverage their experience as both a sustainability advocate and a member of the UoM community to progress the following focus areas:
- Research: Encourage the uptake of sustainability related research and encourage cross-department collaboration.
- Education: Support the development of integrating sustainability principles into FEIT curriculum and research through the development of guidelines and teaching materials.
- Engagement: Promote FEIT’s sustainability activities, achievements and performance through events and interactive workshops.
- Operations: Implement sustainable practices throughout the Faculty such as waste reduction measures, sustainable catering, and energy efficiency.

The FEIT SCoP provides the following to the Faculty:
- A network of experts for which to seek advice to inform the development and execution of relevant activity.
- An avenue for enhancing a culture of shared knowledge and expertise within the Faculty and wider University networks.

Prof Abbas Rajabifard
As Associate Dean Sustainability, Abbas works with colleagues across FEIT, bringing together expertise, imagination and innovation, to realise the priorities listed in the University of Melbourne’s Sustainability Plan 2030, as well as focusing on research to develop a more secure and sustainable society.

Katie has a background in land administration and disaster risk reduction which provides her with experience in implementing sustainable land-related policies and land management strategies to create land security which is vital for the development of wealth and economic health, the privatization of land markets, and sustainable urban planning and land development.

Dr. Behzad Rismanchi is a renowned expert in the field of building energy and sustainability. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering and holds a PhD in Energy Management. With several years of experience in research, design, and optimization of energy systems, he has established himself as a leader in the industry.

Felix is a mechanical engineer by training and brings with rich experience in sustainable manufacturing from both industry and academia. He is the program director for the Master of Engineering Management program and the leader of the Sustainable Production Management systems and Engineering.

Her interdisciplinary research explores how new geospatial technologies used to map land rights in urban informal settlements impact trust relationships between communities and governments. Serene’s research brings together land administration and public administration to investigate how to build trust and public confidence in formal land information systems, one of the most corrupt public institutions globally.
