Downscaled High‑Resolution National Assessment of Offshore Wind and Wave Climate Projections
Strategic Multi-Use Port Infrastructure: Enhancing Australia’s Offshore Wind and Maritime Capabilities for a Sustainable Future Outlook
Project Leader: Felix Kin Peng Hui (University of Melbourne)
Co-investigators: Matthew Pepper (University of Wollongong) and Richard McAllister (Bardex Corporation)
Status: Completed
Project Brief
This project aims to collate evidence to inform the strategic development of multi-use port infrastructure, which will support offshore wind building, existing maritime activities and gas decommissioning capacity. Jointly conducted with industry partners and universities, the project was able to address needs for re-thinking maritime infrastructure with increased renewable energy needs.
ACOWE’s support has helped them achieve:
- A peer-reviewed paper consisting of stakeholder interviews and workshop insights, alongside a phased roadmap with policy recommendations, shaping near-term decision making and grant development
- Additional research training through a postgraduate PhD researcher and a research intern, providing valuable insight
- Future grant opportunities and exploration with partner universities and industry to support pilot projects and further develop the roadmap
The completed project hopes to guide future policy and research into multi-use port infrastructure, resulting in increased resilience and sustainability in the offshore wind industry.
