Associate Professor Antony Hooker
Associate Professor Hooker has a PhD in molecular biology/genetics with research interests in the mechanisms of radiation induced damage. He is the inaugural Director of the Centre for Radiation Research, Education, and Innovation at the University of Adelaide after 12 years as the Principal Radiation Advisor, Radiation Health for the Government of South Australia. He has been affiliated with Flinders University since 1995 and has full academic status in the College of Medicine and Public Health.
Associate Professor Hooker is a Fellow and past President of the Australasian Radiation Protection Society and Member of the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine and the South Pacific Environmental Radioactivity Association. He has worked in the field of low dose radiobiology since 1996. He has been a Chief Investigator on research grants, including ARC, international collaborative and industry grants totalling more than $20M. His research and work in radiobiology, health effects, and risk communication has been internationally and nationally recognised. He has been invited and nominated to sit on many international and national radiation committees, and is a consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency and a member of OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, High Level Working Group on Low-Dose Research Coordination. He provides radiation health advice and radiation risk assessment to the Federal and State government, industry, and public.
