Professor Tony Parker
Professor Tony Parker is a cell and molecular biologist in the School of Biomedical Science (SoBMS) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He leads the Tissue Repair and Translational Physiology group in the SoBMS and is the school’s Academic Lead Indigenous Health. Professor Parker has over 15 years’ experience in tissue injury, wounds and tissue engineering research with a major focus on the biochemical implications of skin and musculoskeletal tissue injury and recovery processes. His team developed and optimised workflows for the proteomic and metabolomic investigation of cutaneous wound fluids and they are internationally recognised for their wound fluid analysis expertise.
He co-leads the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) funded ‘Performance Patch’ project, which was extended to incorporate a Human Integrated Sensor System research component. The project is focussed on the development of wearable predictive diagnostic technologies and evaluation of the biological response to human stress contexts relevant to defence force personnel, and risks of exposure to pathogenic organisms or toxic environments. Professor Parker is also the Chief Scientific Officer of Surgical BioFix Ltd, a Brisbane-based Biotechnology Company that manufactures dehydrated amniotic membrane allografts for wound and surgical application. He also helped to establish Surgical BioFix in 2018 and oversaw the design and building of the company’s cleanroom facility, production of documentation for TGA applications, code of Good Manufacturing Practice compliance and licensing, and registration of the product Revita® on the ARTG.
