Professor Ewa M Goldys

Professor Ewa M Goldys is internationally renowned for development and clinical application of fluorescence diagnostics and ultrasensitive biosensing. Her broad recognition is exemplified by international Fellowships of SPIE, OSA and ATSE, and a Eureka and NSW Premier’s Prizes.

Internationally, Professor Goldys is a Fellow of the Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), and the Optical Society. Nationally, she was awarded an Australian Museum Eureka Prize for Innovative Use of Technology in 2016, a 2020 NSW Premier’s Prize for Leadership in Innovation, and Fellowships of ATSE and The Royal Society of NSW.

She has been instrumental in the formation of collaborative clusters of academic institutions and companies to enhance research capabilities and innovation in fluorescence, nanotechnology and biophotonics. She is Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale Biophotonics (CNBP) with ARC investment of $23M matched by $17M from academic and commercial partners (2014-2022). It has led to the creation five spinoff companies and 11 translational research outcomes. Among them is Radiodynamics Therapeutics Ltd and Theragenos Pty Ltd, co-founded by Professor Goldys with international partners to bring to the market her light and radiation-triggered drug delivery technologies.

In total, Professor Goldys has been awarded over $66M in competitive national and international funding as well as additional major funding from the prestigious Strategic Hires and Retention Pathways program at UNSW aimed at recruiting 100 world-leading scholars.
