Faculty members recognised with three Engineering Education Awards
Members from the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology received three awards at the Australasian Association for Engineering Education (AAEE) 2024 Conference in New Zealand earlier this month.
The awards, which recognise contributions to engineering education, highlight the work being done by our staff to advance the quality and impact of engineering education across Australasia.

The Innovation Practice Program (IPP), led by Associate Professor Peter Cebon, Mr Rowan Doyle, Dr Jillian Kenny, Associate Professor Rowan Brookes and Ms Natalie Mather, was commended with the Australian Council of Engineering Deans (ACED) National Award for Engineering Education Excellence.
This recognition celebrates the IPP’s sustained contributions to Australian engineering education through the Creative Innovative Engineering subject, which leverages industry collaborations to foster professional identities and skills among engineering and other students.

Associate Professor Juliana Kaya Prpic received the Engineering Education Engagement Award for her work in fostering Indigenous engagement within engineering education. This award highlights her efforts in promoting inclusive practices and increasing the participation of Indigenous students in engineering disciplines.

Co-authors Dr Julia Hill, Associate Professor Peter Cebon, Professor Sally Male and Queensland University of Technology Associate Professor Alberto Bellocchi received the Best Practice Paper Award for their paper “Emotional Appraisals of International Engineering Students Studying in Australia: Insights from Reflective Writing Tasks.”
This award recognises their valuable research, which uses emotional appraisals of students at Melbourne as a lens to explore differences between international and domestic students’ learning experiences. This will lead to improved teaching and student support.
These AAEE awards reflect the Faculty’s commitment to excellence in engineering education, innovation and inclusivity.
