What is the Engineering and IT Hackathon Festival?
The Hackathon Festival provides Faculty of Engineering and IT students with the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative solutions to industry challenges.
The 2024 competition will include a series of activities hosted across 3 days starting from September 24 - September 26 2024, including skill development workshops and industry networking opportunities designed to assist teams in developing a response to provided challenges.
All attendees will be eligible to win prizes throughout the competition. The top three teams will be awarded monetary funds and be acknowledged at the Festival's closing ceremony.
Participants will also be eligible to gain recognition for their capability in Sustainability Advocacy, with a verified digital credential through Melbourne Plus.

In 2023, the following monetary prizes will be awarded to the top three teams:
- 1st place - $6,000
- 2nd place - $3,000
- 3rd place - $2,000

What challenges or problem statements should I expect to see at the event?
The theme for the 2023 Competition is Hack the Gap: Where sustainability meets technology.
The challenges will prompt teams to explore the intersection between sustainability and technology and students from all Faculty of Engineering and IT degrees are encouraged to participate.

FEIT Hackathon participants will be able to build your capabilities in Sustainability Advocacy by working in a team to respond to a challenge and explore the intersection between sustainability and technology.
Who can attend?
The Hackathon Festival is open to all current postgraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, including students studying the following:
- Master of Engineering (suite of programs)
- Master of Engineering Management
- Master of Information Systems
- Master of Information Technology
- Master of Energy Systems
- Master of Computer Science
- Doctor of Philosophy - Eng & IT
Participants must be enrolled in at least one subject in Semester 2, 2023 to be eligible to compete.
What are the team requirements?
- Team must consist of 3-5 students.
- All teams will benefit from having a broad range of disciplines represented in their team. Each team should have at least two eligible degrees represented.
Students are encouraged to apply with your own team. However, if this is not possible, we will help match you with other students.
