Aerospace and Rocket Engineering Society (ARES)

Through its rocketry and rover teams, ARES enters projects into competitions on behalf of the University, giving students an opportunity to get hands on as they develop and build rockets and rovers from scratch.

Our teams are diverse, consisting of engineers, computer scientists and business students, from undergraduate to masters level. Students involved in our team can look forward to gaining skills and experience that benefits both their studies and professional lives.

In June of 2022, our rocket team travelled to New Mexico to fly their supersonic "Sprocket" to just over 10,000ft in the Spaceport America Cup, returning with the Charles Hoult Award for Modelling and Simulation.  A few months earlier, the rover team also placed an overall 2nd in the Australian Rover Challenge in Adelaide.

As a society, we also run workshops, social events and industry events for the benefit of our general members, as well as a school outreach program.

Please join by reaching out on social media, attending one of our various in-person events, or by visiting the UMSU Clubs and Societies website below!
