SuniTAFE demonstration sites
Demonstration sites have been established at the SuniTAFE Smart Farm, offering hands-on experiences of technology solutions.
Activity information & objectives
Working with SuniTAFE, the Mallee Regional Innovation Centre has developed a number of technology demonstrations at the SuniTAFE Smart Farm as part of our Drought Management for the Health and Longevity of Perennial Horticulture Plants project.
The demonstration sites provide opportunities to experience technologies that can assist with everyday farming challenges.
They allow people to:
- identify key farm decisions and processes that can be supported by technology
- discover the use and value of technology solutions to inform and assist farm management
- chat with suppliers to ensure products meet your needs
- find out key information about product cost and performance.
Technology demonstrations
- Project 1: Spromise Two Way Com Trail Camera Technology
- Project 2: Swan Systems
- Project 3: Metos
- Project 4: Phytech
- Project 5: Incyt by LX
- Project 6: Rapid Aim
Selection criteria
The technology for the demonstration sites was chosen based on a number of factors, including:
- Relevance of the technology solution to horticulture production systems in the region
- Presence of the company within the region (service support, maintenance)
- Considerations for wider uptake or prolonged uptake (subscription, access to data, understanding the data, sustainable or competitive advantage of technologies)
- High barriers to entry
- Uniqueness that cannot be easily replicated
- Educational value
- Evidence of technical or commercial feasibility of the technology
- Access to the relevant know-how, or existing/potential intellectual property (IP) that will be necessary for the trial (what other technology is compatible at TAFE farm)
- What other information is required? (e.g., soil data)
- What can be offered to support the installation? What is the value add for the demonstration site?
