About the award
The Kernot Memorial Medal is a prestigious award which recognises distinguished engineering achievement in Australia within the previous five years. It is bestowed by the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) at the University of Melbourne in memory of Professor William Charles Kernot, the first professor of Engineering at the University of Melbourne.
The Kernot Medal has recognised many prominent engineers since its establishment in 1925, such as Sir John Monash, and Sir John Holland. The award consists of a medal and a certificate in recognition of the recipient’s distinguished engineering achievement in Australia.
Nominations of Kernot Memorial Medal are open to individuals, both internal and external to the university, who have demonstrated significant leadership in advancing the fields of Engineering in Australia within the previous five years. Nominations can be submitted either as self-nominations or peer-nominations.
We encourage nominees of all backgrounds and identities including people of all genders, those with disabilities, mature age and younger applicants, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and others who are culturally and racially marginalised.
