Prefabricating affordability: industrialised construction and its effects on housing affordability in Australia
Overview
This research investigates the need for a more holistic and interdisciplinary approach to developing prefabricated housing ventures with the greater aim of improving housing affordability. Through the conception of an analytical and generative tool, the disciplinary practices operating within prefabricated housing companies are integrated with those from development, finance, planning and land use; providing a new model for improving housing affordability in prefabricated housing ventures.
Key outcomes
The design research employed in this study provides a unique perspective on the issue of affordability, as it is a projective and integrative process which can facilitate complex transdisciplinary arrangements to explore challenges in a holistic manner, providing an alternative to the clearly defined and well documented methodologies within economics, planning and wider concentration on the social scientific aspects of affordability.
