Scholarships

There are a variety of scholarships available to Indigenous engineering and information technology students.

When you apply for a course you will be automatically considered for some scholarships, while others require a separate application. It is even possible to combine scholarships with the ABSTUDY Masters Award and have 100% of your course fees paid for.

Undergraduate scholarships

By identifying as Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or both, and completing a category one equity schemes and scholarships application form you will be considered for all scholarships awarded with your Melbourne offer.

Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship

Indigenous students who achieve an ATAR of 90+ are guaranteed to receive a Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship, which includes 100% fee waiver, a generous allowance and more.

Narrm Scholarship

The Narrm Scholarship Program provides financial and enrichment support to eligible Indigenous Australian students, and to students applying to study at the University through VTAC's equity entry scheme, known as Access Melbourne, commencing in 2024 or later.

Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarship

Students will be considered for a Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarship, comprising both Indigenous Education Cost (ICES) and Indigenous Accommodation Cost Scholarship (ICAS).

Residential College Funding

ABSTUDY’s Residential College Costs Option

The ABSTUDY Residential College Costs Option allows eligible students to live in a residential college and to have the cost paid directly by ABSTUDY.

Murrup Barak Scholarships & Grants

Murrup Barak and residential colleges provide fee scholarships for Indigenous students who are not eligible for government accommodation funding. See their Scholarships & Grants page for more details

College Scholarships

You can apply for scholarships within your Residential College application. Scholarships range from $500–$20,000, with many specifically for Indigenous students.

Research scholarships

The Melbourne Research Training Program Scholarship comprises:

  • 100% fee waiver
  • $52,300 (tax-exempt if studying full-time) yearly living allowance
  • $10,000 travel and development yearly allowance
  • $2000–3000 relocation grant
  • Full leave entitlements, including paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.
