Yi Fan Xie

Yifan Xie is a graduate researcher with a transdisciplinary research topic that bridges engineering and education. He has recently obtained his second master’s degree at the Institute of Education at University College London, and he obtained his first master’s degree at the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences at King’s College London. His major emphasis has been exploring the influence of transferable abilities, such as active learning and problem-based learning, on engineering education and learning experiences. With a background in both engineering and education, in his PhD, under the supervision of Professor Sally Male, Dr Shannon Rios, and Dr Andrew Valentine, he will explore the concept of experience in education in general and engineering education in particular to guide the empirical investigation of practical based aspects of engineering education in different contexts and settings, and to advance our thinking about how to introduce a greater practical orientation to engineering education.
