Profile: Professor Mark Hargreaves

Professor Mark Hargreaves believes the Mallee Regional Innovation Centre’s activities, particularly in the renewable energy, drought resilience and water management spaces, could have a significant impact on the region.

As the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Partnerships and Infrastructure) at the University of Melbourne, Mark also serves as chair of the Centre’s board, alternating with his La Trobe University and SuniTAFE colleagues.

“The Centre has grown steadily since its inception and has developed important connections into the community,” Mark said.

“We really want to translate our research into impact within the communities we serve, and the Centre projects have the potential to do that.

“Our work, especially through the One Basin CRC and Victoria Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub, along with the renewable energy projects, could make a real difference in the region.

Our challenge is to clearly maintain the value of the Centre for the region and secure the resources that sustain it.

At the University of Melbourne, Mark oversees the internal schemes that foster interdisciplinary research as well as research relationships with external organisations.

Mark’s research and teaching interests focus on exercise physiology and metabolism. He served on the Victorian Institute of Sport board from 2004 to 2019.
