Mallee Hydrogen Technology Cluster

The National Energy Resources Australia (NERA) announced funding to develop an Australian network of hydrogen clusters. Among those announced to lead a cluster was the Mallee Regional Innovation Centre.

The announcement cements the Mallee’s position as a viable and strategic location to foster hydrogen capabilities.

The Mallee Hydrogen Technology Cluster will cover the North West of Victoria, across the Mildura Rural City Council, Swan Hill Rural City Council, Buloke Shire Council and Gannawarra Shire Council areas.

Spearheaded by NERA (National Energy Resources Australia), with the goal of putting Australia on the global map for hydrogen technology and expertise, the national cluster will establish a global identity and a recognised brand for Australian hydrogen technology and expertise.

It will also aid the development of the hydrogen supply chain, reduce overlaps and identify gaps in the development, deployment, and commercialisation of new hydrogen-focussed technologies.

These regional clusters, all of which have the support of their state and territory governments, have been established around key, existing hydrogen projects and technology supply chains in strategic locations that have a demonstrated capacity to support them.

The clusters are a crucial step in building the skills, capacities and commercialisation opportunities necessary to unlock Australia’s potential for a globally competitive hydrogen industry that could add up $26 billion to Australia’s GDP and thousands of jobs to the national economy by 2050.
